Confucius Institute for Scotland's Schools

The Confucius Institute for Scotland's Schools (CISS) is based at The Ramshorn, 98 Ingram Street in Glasgow's Merchant City, part of the University of Strathclyde, and is an award-winning organisation working with schools across Scotland to engage pupils with Chinese language learning and culture. CISS helps teachers bring Mandarin into classrooms, organises cultural exchanges, and introduces pupils to Chinese characters, pinyin and conversation skills, coordinating Confucius Classroom hubs located all across Scotland. Staff include Professional Development Officers like Susan, who has been involved with CISS since 2015 and has focused on delivering professional learning for teachers of Chinese and developing the Mandarin Framework progression pathway; and Fhiona, Director of SCILT and CISS, who graduated from the University of Glasgow with an MA in French and English before completing a PGDE with distinction at the University of Strathclyde, and now advises Scottish Government language policy while providing strategic leadership to all Confucius Classroom hubs in Scotland.
