About Confucius Institute for Scotland (University of Edinburgh)
The Confucius Institute for Scotland at the University of Edinburgh was established in 2006 as the first such institute in Scotland, partnered with Fudan University and backed by both the Scottish and Chinese governments, winning Institute of the Year five times (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012) plus an Outstanding Contribution Gold Medal in 2011. Its evening classes run one hour, twice a week over a ten-week term, taught by teachers seconded from Fudan University including experienced senior teachers and Master's candidates in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages; a 10% discount applies for University of Edinburgh alumni and staff, and student rates are available to any UK higher education student. Its campus spans Abden House (administration and some classes), plus North and South Buildings on Dalkeith Road housing teaching rooms, study rooms and a dedicated library open Monday-Friday.
