Confucius Institute in Auckland

The Confucius Institute in Auckland was established in 2007 at the University of Auckland in partnership with China's Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban and Fudan University, and was the first Confucius Institute in New Zealand. It offers Chinese Conversation courses (6 weeks, 1.5-hour evening classes once a week) held on-site at the University of Auckland city campus, alongside one-on-one lessons arranged individually, business and public Chinese classes, and support for introducing Mandarin into New Zealand schools. The Institute also administers the HSK/YCT Chinese proficiency exams and the CTCSOL Chinese-teaching qualification, each with dedicated phone lines. As with other Confucius Institutes, it is a Chinese-government-linked cultural and educational body, a model that has drawn public and parliamentary scrutiny in several countries, so prospective students may want to weigh that context alongside the course offering.
