Wei graduated from the SOAS University of London with a Master's degree in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, having been born and raised in China where Chinese is her first language; she has been living in the UK for over 20 years, which has enabled her to become fluent in both Chinese and English. Wei emphasises that while learning different languages is essential for students to stand out in their careers and daily lives, it's crucial to have a teacher who possesses historical and background knowledge of the Chinese language to help students truly learn, rather than simply memorising vocabulary. Her combination of a specialist postgraduate teaching qualification and two decades of UK-based living gives her a strong bridge between native-level Chinese fluency and an understanding of how UK students specifically approach learning the language.
